When Megan (Murphy) Fleming left Franklin for college, she never expected she would someday return to her hometown to raise her own family. She left Franklin to attend Gannon University and worked in Erie before seeking an employment opportunity in St. Cloud, Florida.
She enjoyed her time in Florida, but missed the change in the seasons and felt she was missing out on family gatherings, holidays and events. A family member suffered a health scare and Megan decided to come back home for a while.
“I always thought of my move back to Franklin as temporary, but nine years later, we’re still here.”
Now Megan and her husband Antwan, a Florida native, have bought a home in Franklin where they are raising their two small children, Jacob and Alexa.
Antwan is from Florida, but relocated to Franklin once the two married. Megan jokes that between work and church he now has more friends and ties to the community than she does. He never misses a game of noon ball at the YMCA if he can help it.
“I think it’s a beautiful little town. I’ve met more good people than I have bad,” he said.
As for Jacob and Alexa, the kids love all the family friendly events and activities hosted by the city and local organizations. There are also plenty of organized sports teams, educational, and outdoor activities to keep the kids busy.
Their parents especially value having a place to call home that feels very safe to raise their kids.
And they also like that within an hour or so they can be in bigger cities.
“We can enjoy what the cities have to offer and then return to our quiet little town without all the heavy traffic and stop lights,” Megan said.
