Historical Lecture
The Venango County Historical Society will be hosting:Falling Springs Rock Shelter - A Native American Archaeological Talk by William Black, noted local historian and archaeologist.Join us for this wonderful presentation on the finds made in Venango County by one of the key participants and interpreters.The same talk will be given twice:Thursday, Feb. 13th at the ball room at DeBence Antique Music World in Franklin, PA 7 PMandMonday, Feb. 24th at the Titusville Historical Society, in Titusville 6 PMA PowerPoint program will present the site’slocation as a resting place, discuss the excavation methods, consider the cultural significance of recovered artifacts, and present the necessity for use of professional archaeological guidelines.William (Bill) Black has conducted several community-participationexcavations in Venango County including French Fort Machault, explorations in several lawns in Franklin, and a Native American village site near Cooperstown carbon-dated to 1250 CE. He was employed as a public-school teacher for thirty years. With a continuing interest in this region’s past, he attempts to include thecommunities’ participation in its discovery.Historical LectureDate and Time
