DESCRIPTION:The Oil Region Alliance welcomes author Stephanie Gorton for a free public talk about her research on local historical figure Ida Tarbell for her book Citizen Reporters: S. S. McClure\, Ida Tarbell\, and the Magazine that Rewrote America (2020) Wednesday\, April 9 at 6 p.m. at the Oil Region Venango Campus.\n\n \n\n"I very much look forward to returning to the Oil Region and to revisiting the places and people who were essential to my research for Citizen Reporters\," said Gorton.\n\n \n\n"The event will dwell on Ida Tarbell's writer-editor relationship with S. S. McClure\, her post-McClure's life\, and her legacy in journalism\, and will include plenty of time for a Q&A and discussion afterward. It's an honor to be part of the Oil Region Alliance's investment in connecting audiences with the region's unique history."\n\n \n\nGorton has been awarded for her historical journalism and was published in The New Yorker\, Smithsonian\, and The Boston Globe.\n\n \n\nA Q&A and book signing will take place after the presentation. Copies of Citizen Reporters will be available for purchase at the event.\n\n \n\nThis talk is free and open to the public thanks to funding provided by the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Barbara Morgan Harvey Center for the Study of Oil Heritage. The Oil Region Venango Campus is located at 1801 W. 1st St.\, Oil City. The presentation will take place in Rhoades Center Auditorium.\n\n \n\nReservations are recommended\, but not required.
